Where to get help

Where to get help for practical or functional concerns

This section gives advice on where to get help for any practical concerns you may have while living with longer-term symptoms of COVID-19.

Here are the concerns we cover in this section:

Looking after people

you might have caring responsibilities that have been affected by your symptoms

If you look after people regularly, you might find that your ability to care for them has been affected by your symptoms. For advice and support on helping a loved one, take a look at the Age UK website, as they have great experience in helping all carers. You might also find it useful to take a look at the Citizen’s Advice website, where they have benefits advice if you care for someone.

Work

If you work, you might find that your ability to do your job has been affected by your symptoms. For guidance on employment, take a look at the Long Covid SOS website.

Your education

If you attend school, college, university or another form of further education, you might find that your ability to do your work has been affected by your symptoms. Most places of education will have a student welfare team, who you can speak to. You might also want to speak to your tutor. For staying in education, take a look at the Citizen’s Advice website.

Money

If you’re living with longer-term symptoms of COVID-19, you might find that you have money worries. For debt and money advice, take a look at the Citizen’s Advice website.

Your housing situation

If you’re living with longer-term symptoms of COVID-19, you might find that you have trouble with your housing situation. You might have trouble paying your rent or mortgage, or perhaps your house is not suitable for your care needs. For housing advice, take a look at Shelter’s website.

Not being able to give up unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as smoking or drinking

The effects of COVID-19 might be leading to unhealthy habits, or stopping you from making positive lifestyle changes. For advice on stop smoking services to help you quit, see the NHS website. For advice on cutting down or stopping drinking, see the Alcohol Change UK website.
